A Postscript to “Under Pressure”
I returned to the same convenience store today. My husband is having trouble eating. Medication makes food unappetizing, but breakfast sandwiches still satisfy.
I ordered on the computer and went to pay. As I was fishing through my purse for my loyalty card, I remarked to the cashier, “It’s very quiet here today. Last Sunday it was crazytown!”
Then she said, “You were the one who talked with my coworker and me last week. You were the one who understood.”
“Yes, that was me.”
It was nice that what I said last week made a difference. After a week’s worth of customers, I was touched that she remembered me.
May I be mindful of what others are experiencing and always be “the one who understood.”
